My Background
I have taken piano & organ lessons for over 10 years with Miss Judy Johnson, my teacher, who taught at Marygrove College and played at Mario's Restaurant. Some of the studios that I have taught at are Creative Keys Music Studio and Evola Music. I also attended work shops with Lowrey Artists - Jim Vogelman & Dennis Awe. I feel that you can always learn something from someone and if you think you have acquired all there is to know, then you quit growing as a musician.
I am a member of L.I.F.E. at Evola Music and we perform at parades, restaurants and various events.
I enjoy playing Boogie Woogie, Rock And Roll, Soft Rock, Spiritual, Show Tunes, Rag Time, Jazz, Big Bands, Latin, Hawaiian, Standards And Pop.
I present music theory as well as teach how to play. We cover what notes the keys are as well as settings, registrations and learn how to read and play music. I write out lesson plans to cover the subjects and skills to be taught each week.
I believe that classes should be fun and informative, so students will want to practice and become more proficient. I will teach you how to play the piano, keyboard or organ. Students will learn the musical alphabet, musical notations and will use online tools from our instructional website, (that is by invitation only), method books to learn the material presented along with selected pieces to play.
I will cover how to read music and music theory. Students should practice at least 30 minutes a day to reinforce and retain skills learned at weekly lessons. If you are interested in taking organ lessons, I also have a solid understanding of organ registration.
Playing an instrument is something that you will be able to enjoy your whole life! It is never too late to learn how to play and I will teach children or adults. I believe that learning should be fun, so rehearsing (practice) is more enjoyable!
